SHORTS Grand Jury
Chair of the Grand Jury Panel

João Francisco Pinto was born in Portugal, where he studied and graduated in economics. He embraced the media industry at an early age, starting his career as a journalist in a financial newspaper in Lisbon. In 1994, he moved to Macau, where he started managing a television and radio station.

Currently, he is responsible for supervising the production of Portuguese and English language content for TDM, Macau’s public broadcaster.


SHORTS Grand Jury

Alexe Landgren, a writer director from southern Sweden. For several years she worked with extras and casting, while making her own shorts. She has made nine, some of which have screened internationally, some not shown to anyone at all. Right now Alexe and her colleague Karen Helene Haugaard are in post-production with feature debut, LYKKE POST PARTUM. Parallel she is developing her next project, and she is also writing a youth feature adapted from the Swedish book LITE MER ÄN EN KRAM by Mårten Melin. Alexe tends to work with drama, subtle humor and female perspectives.


SHORTS Grand Jury

Malte Stein is an independent animation film maker from Berlin, Germany. In 2013, he graduated from the University of Film and Television “Konrad Wolf” in Potsdam Babelsberg with a diploma in animation. Before that, he studied scriptwriting and and drew many comic stories since the 1990s. His animated short films BLUE DREAM (2013), FLOOD (2018) and THING (2021) were screened at many Festivals and won several awards. FLOOD was awarded the Best Animation in the Macau International Short Film Festival 2018, and THING was selected for “Official Selection” in the 2021 edition.

In 2022 he took part at the TAIS Artist in Residence Program in Toronto, Canada. He has worked as an animator for several short and feature films, as a screenwriter for TV Series, Co-Curator for Dok Leipzig and was a Jury member in several Festivals. Since June 2022 he has been working on his new film project in which he is also taking on the role of producer.

Lok Kong. Director of the Programmes and Production Division of TDM – Teledifusão de Macau, joined the company in 1984 and has been in TDM till now. For the past 30 years, he worked as Production Assistant, Director, Producer and Department Head, mainly engaging himself in TV Production. He is also the Organising Committee Member.


VOLUME Grand Jury

Ray Granlund holds Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University in his native Houston (USA). After a 15-year career as a classical and electronic musician and composer, music and food journalist and cultural entrepreneur, he returned to academia, earning a Master of Arts with distinction in Cultural Policy, Relations and Diplomacy from Goldsmiths, University of London, for his research into international aspects of popular music and arts funding, and the phenomenon of gastrodiplomacy in food and cooking shows. He now resides in London and works as an editor and musicologist at White Label Productions, serving the classical music and original soundtrack recording industry.

Gustavo Ribeiro has made films for as long as he can remember. His first animation “Napo” was selected for festivals like Shangai International Film Festival, Los Angeles Shorts International Film Festival, Macau International Short Film Festival and many others. He graduated in Visual Arts at the Federal University of Paraná, where he developed his knowledge on the most diverse fields of art. Gustavo is one of the founders of the animation studio Miralumo Films and Revolution, a Digital Arts School.


SHORTS Jury

João Cordeiro has been developing his artistic, scientific and professional careers on the subject of Digital Media – with an emphasis on sound – mainly as a lecturer, researcher, sound designer and musician. He holds a master’s degree in Sound Design and a PhD in Science and Technology of the Arts – specialization in Computer Music, both awarded by the Portuguese Catholic University in Porto. His research interests include social networks, education, live electronics, soundscapes studies and sonic interaction design.

He has been a full-time lecturer in higher education since 2008 and coordinated for two years the BA(Hons) Media Production and BA(Hons) Radio and Digital Media at the London School of Film, Media and Design – University of West London. He is currently working full-time at Polytechnic institute of Portalegre, where co-founded and leads programme in Sound Design and Music Production.


SHORTS Jury

María Jáimez is an Spanish actress and director. She has a wide range of theatrical and audiovisual experience. This year she has the premiere of several films with directors such as Daniel Calparsoro, Jorge Coira or Javier Macipe. Right now she is shooting the new Rodrigo Sorogoyen series.

“Manolo Montague and Carmela Capulet” is her debut as a director. A film that couldn’t be headed by anyone else than her: a documentary about love and her grandparents. It was selected and awarded in several national and international festivals, and was selected for the “Official Selection” in the Macau International Short Film Festival 2019.

Marta Teijeira, Basque Country (Spain). Being with creative mind, she finished the Degree in Audio-visual Communication with loads of enthusiasm and several projects in her mind. Fan of sensibility and humour, she found her vocation in the world of communication.
Marta filmed some documentaries and fiction short films while she was studying. She wrote and directed her debut short film “Love Centrifuged” in 2018. This film was projected in some national and international festivals and was selected for the “Official Selection” in the Macau International Short Film Festival 2019.

Now she works as a Copywriter and Content Creator in a Creative Agency. Doing what she likes the most: Creating.

Ricardo Pinho. Lecturer in filmmaking at the Escola Superior Artística do Porto. Master of Psychology with dissertation in Psychology of Art titled “The Psychologization of Cinematographic Narrative”. Former PhD candidate in “Performative Arts and the Moving Image” at the Universidade de Lisboa with practice as research investigation on science fiction screenwriting. Founder of the filmmakers collective “Cineastas e Actores do Porto”. Performed as a standup comedian at the TakeOut Comedy Club in HK.
